Personality[]

Ryu is a notably arrogant and vicious individual, revelling in dominating and crushing those he deems to be beneath him. He gets a noticeable rise out of beating down people who rise to his provocations and gets visibly irritated when people don't react the way he wants them to. Ryu is supremely confident in his own strength, having realised his immense natural talent and power from an early age, which led to him developing a stifling superiority complex. His superiority complex was shattered completely after he suffered his first defeat at the hands of Yu, causing him to experience the emotions that come with a crushing defeat and making him cry like a 5 year old for the first time in his life.[1]

Abilities[]

Ryu Baeksan is an extremely talented individual, especially in regards to combat, generally fighting in a desultory manner with an unorthodox style of movement, even impressing legendary boxing trainer K. Even though he had only spent two weeks at a boxing gym, Ryu was able to overwhelm and dominate a super-middleweight boxer ranked 3rd in the nation while sparring, despite a visible weight disadvantage and lack of boxing experience. K commented that Ryu had an innate talent for boxing, natural athletic ability and was overflowing with confidence, calling him a boxing genius.[2]

His talent seems to extend to all sports, as seen when he was playing football at school (and was able to strike the ball accurately enough that it would have smacked Injae in the face had Yu not caught it).[3]

Unique Boxing Style: While watching him box, K noted that Ryu's exceptional elasticity and flexibility enables him to dodge and weave from impossible angles while striking back relentlessly. He is even able to switch his type of punch mid-swing without any loss of momentum (even after the transition) because his movements are so fluid and, unlike a normal feint, each of his punches flow and connect. K also noted that Ryu's self-taught and unique style of boxing was centred around freedom, exemplified by his carefree dodging and unrestricted attacks.[2]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Some of the fandom liken Ryu to Boku no Hero Academia's Bakugo Katsuki, with the nickname "Albino Bakugo" due to a top comment by Gar Bowler.
