Jean-Pierre Manuel (쟝 삐에르 마뉘엘, Jyang Ppieleu Manwiel) is a professional boxer and the former boxing lightweight world champion.[4][2][3]
Appearance[]
Jean-Pierre is a lanky yet coordinated fair-skinned man, who has turquoise eyes with blue pupils and very long straight black hair that falls down his back and down the sides of his head, framing his face. Much like Yu, Jean-Pierre almost always has an apathetic disinterested expression on his face with an equally dead-looking gaze. He tends to wear relatively fancy-looking formal attire when outside of the ring.
Personality[]
Jean is analytical problem-solver, eager to improve systems and processes with his innovative ideas. He has a talent for seeing possibilities for improvement, whether at work, at home, or in himself. An intellectual, Jean enjoys logical reasoning and complex problem-solving. He approaches life by analyzing the theory behind what he sees, and is focused inward, on his own thoughtful study of the world around him. Jean is drawn to logical systems and is much less comfortable with the unpredictable nature of other people and their emotions. He is independent.
Life/Plot[]
When Jean was at young age, his mother cheated on his father, driving them to break up, and his mother to leave Jean with his dad. His dad was incompetent, so he left Jean alone with 100 bucks at the train station. Although young Jean had already anticipated this, he still couldn't hold his tears in. A young Peter ( Jean's future coach ) and Stella ( Jean's future wife ) found him alone and presumably took him in. Later in life Jean became obsessed with perfection and strived for it in many different of ways. He eventually decided to pursue his ambition through boxing, but still felt unsatisfied with his progress even after becoming the lightweight world champion. Jean-Pierre was first seen in the audience by himself, observing Yu's debut boxing match against John Taker. When he first saw Yu in the ring he was shocked and thrilled to discover a boxer who had attained perfection. He felt that if he could win against him, his goal for perfection would be achieved. He took to the streets to fight against criminals in order to fight opponents with murderous intent after finding the sparring partners in his gym lacking. When his fight against Yu came, he nearly became a monster himself, prepared to die in the ring if it meant achieving perfection. Before that could happen, his wife, Stella, jumped close to the ring and told Jean that he would soon become a father. That made him want to keep on living, to not become like his own dad, so he willingly gave his belt to Yu, forfeiting the match. Jean later continued to box after recovering from his injuries.
Later in the toon we see Jean again with his wife and daughter Maria in a amusement park.
Abilities[]
Jean-Pierre is a genius boxer who became the world champion of his division as soon as he made his debut. Strong enough to be considered one of the top 5 Pound for Pound fighters in the boxing world according to K's personal rankings, he went undefeated for ten years winning 38 out of 39 bouts before losing his title to Yu.
Long Range Boxing: Jean-Pierre has an astounding reach of 79 inches, which is capable of exceeding 118 inches after stepping in for a jab. Jean-Pierre's incredible range allows his punches to always be within reach of the opponent and also enables him to keep his distance from them during a fight.
Ring Intelligence: Jean-Pierre's strategic mind is by far his greatest asset. He is capable of making effective split-second decisions by tactically analyzing an opponent right down to their muscle movements in order to find an appropriate way to counter them. K described his boxing technique as being nearly flawless and so brilliant that he possesses control over both time and space in the ring, and Jean-Pierre himself as Yu's only rival in terms of perfection. The only boxer to get the upper hand on him in terms of strategy during a match was Marco Santorino.
Inhuman Temporal Perception (Limited): After a long training session where he put himself close to death and getting in tune with his body, Jean-Pierre acquired the ability to see things move at a different time than his, however his time perception was limited being slower than Yu's who managed to hit his punches after being serious and knocked him out.
Enhanced Strength: The kinetic energy generated by Jean-Pierre's speed and long arms allows him to deliver very powerful punches capable of knocking out normal people in a single stroke and after the near death experience had during his training he became strong enough to open a hole in a punching bag with one blow. With jabs equivalent to straights, his punching power allowed him to win 32 bouts by KO.
Immense Speed and Agility: Jean-Pierre is an incredibly fast and agile fighter able to deliver a sequence of punches so fast from a long distance that the opponent cannot even defend, being one of the few fighters who can rival Yu at speed only losing to him because of his inhuman time perception that makes it impossible to reach him.
